New Small Comet Images from NASA's Polar Spacecraft
The presence of the small comets in the vicinity of Earth has been
verified with three independent types of imaging techniques, resulting in
three distinct kinds of images:
|
Atmospheric holes produced by the disruption of small
comets above Earth's atmosphere. These are water vapor
clouds seen at ultraviolet wavelengths.
|
|
Bright oxygen trails produced by the disruption of the
small comets in the vicinity of Earth. These trails are seen at
ultraviolet wavelengths.
|
|
Bright trails of OH molecule emissions produced from breakup
of cometary water molecules by sunlight. These trails are
photographed at visible wavelengths.
